Has anyone in Halifax had someone approach their home about taking an unused vehicle for free?

Has anyone in Halifax had someone approach their home asking about buying or taking an unused vehicle that was not for sale? Someone recently approached my elderly parents about a vehicle (2010s, not a rust bucket) on their property and said he had noticed it for a long time, and was watching their property for years, which made them uncomfortable. The interaction then became somewhat rude and he became aggressive when they did not agree to give the vehicle away for free, insulting them with terms like "loopy" for not wanting to part with it. The person was wearing sunglasses and a hat with in an attempt to be incognito, so this is not about identifying anyone in particular publicly. I’m just wondering whether this is a common vehicle-buying approach locally, a known business practice, or something others in Halifax have experienced as the individual would not give me his name or business he represented. If you’ve had a similar interaction, I’d appreciate hearing generally what happened..
